Thanksgiving and a refrigerator that works!

A fall stroll along the Guadalupe River
Guadalupe River State Park

It has been a while since my last blog entry but all is well with us.  What with the Thanksgiving Holiday and our refrigerator odyssey (I think it might have been easier to get the Wicked Witch's broomstick) well, anyway we have been rather occupied.

Bald Cypress are some of my favorite trees

But success at last, we have a new refrigerator!  In a nutshell, after many phone calls and going to two more places, one problem got fixed but brought to light another even more expensive problem.  So in the end we gave up and ordered a new refrigerator.  It is now installed and working great – our Christmas present to each other.  Very expensive, not very romantic but it was what we needed.  And now we are back on the road doing some winter Texas camping.

We still managed to do a little hiking

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my parents, brother and sister-in-law and uncle and aunt.  The food was wonderful and we all pitched in to cook.  Dad cooked the turkey, mom made the dressing and the ‘kids’ did the trimmings.  I don’t know if we are all getting to be amazing chefs or what, but it was an especially excellent meal.  Perhaps part of the secret was in being all together.

Around the campfire at Lake Bastrop

After Thanksgiving we went to San Antonio and to get our refrigerator installed before heading to San Marcos and Lake Bastrop. Today we are camping at Palmetto State Park.  We will head to Lost Maples next and then back to Odessa for Christmas.  Ft. Davis/Big Bend are in the plans for the New Year and then back to San Antonio for a two month stay as park hosts again this year at Government Canyon.  We will probably work in some quick trips to the DFW area and over to East Texas as well.  We are looking forward to visiting with more friends and family this winter.  Hope to see you soon.
