Thanksgiving and a refrigerator that works!

A fall stroll along the Guadalupe River
Guadalupe River State Park

It has been a while since my last blog entry but all is well with us.  What with the Thanksgiving Holiday and our refrigerator odyssey (I think it might have been easier to get the Wicked Witch's broomstick) well, anyway we have been rather occupied.

Bald Cypress are some of my favorite trees

But success at last, we have a new refrigerator!  In a nutshell, after many phone calls and going to two more places, one problem got fixed but brought to light another even more expensive problem.  So in the end we gave up and ordered a new refrigerator.  It is now installed and working great – our Christmas present to each other.  Very expensive, not very romantic but it was what we needed.  And now we are back on the road doing some winter Texas camping.

We still managed to do a little hiking

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my parents, brother and sister-in-law and uncle and aunt.  The food was wonderful and we all pitched in to cook.  Dad cooked the turkey, mom made the dressing and the ‘kids’ did the trimmings.  I don’t know if we are all getting to be amazing chefs or what, but it was an especially excellent meal.  Perhaps part of the secret was in being all together.

Around the campfire at Lake Bastrop

After Thanksgiving we went to San Antonio and to get our refrigerator installed before heading to San Marcos and Lake Bastrop. Today we are camping at Palmetto State Park.  We will head to Lost Maples next and then back to Odessa for Christmas.  Ft. Davis/Big Bend are in the plans for the New Year and then back to San Antonio for a two month stay as park hosts again this year at Government Canyon.  We will probably work in some quick trips to the DFW area and over to East Texas as well.  We are looking forward to visiting with more friends and family this winter.  Hope to see you soon.

  1. Good to see your family Cindy at Thanksgiving. Good to learn of your new fridge. Can't get by without one - for very long.

Heard you might be visiting Nacogdoches / Stephen F. Austin sometime soon and perhaps back through your nature preserve in Arlington. If I'm alive and well I've got some James Bond wardrobe. I purchased myself a custom Tux from Joseph A. Bank with a change-out white Dinner jacket (think Roger Moore in Octopussy). Then a white tux shirt, several cufflink/studs, and a white, black and red bow tie. LOL. I got tired of renting for formal writers events and saved a fortune buying at the lower price of the year at 70% off. All I need is a Walther PPK handgun and I'm a stand in for Moore. Just the same the next time you are here we might have a good wardrobe choice for new headshots. Have a great indoor backdrop at Rush Creek Christian Church (stone wall).

We are fine and ready for Christmas though it will be another one alone. Jeff, Winkie and Robert will be in ski country and Thomas with another family skiing as well. James with his new bride in Huntsville or Houston. Time does fly with James the first to marry in a civil ceremony surprising us all. Then 19 weeks of training with the Army as a MP.

I do miss our annual treks across Texas from El Paso through Odessa and seeing your folks, Tim/Linda with you and David. Its just not fair that after born into such a large extended family that one day it would be so small. But there are good memories to carry us onward.

    Have a Merry Christmas!

That said I've followed the blog this year more faithfully and have loved the mental vacations. Healthwise I got exposed to some type of bacteria from some poor batch of Apple Juice a few weeks ago and still not over that. But soon, (soon) I hope to be 100% and no longer ailing. Keep those photos and posts coming. Love it when you spend time in Texas Parks. They are unique.

    Steve
